Cascade Autologous Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Provided by Sideline Orthopedics

PRP therapyWhen you suffer an injury or are recovering from surgery, there are very few non-invasive treatments specifically designed to help heal. Dr. Eastwood of Sideline Orthopedics and Sports Medicine uses a process called “Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy” to augment the healing process.

What is it?
Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy, or PRP, is a non-surgical approach to healing. When you suffer an injury or have a surgery, your body naturally produces platelets in order to help the injury heal. PRP has been developed as a way to help speed up that process. Dr. Eastwood is able to perform a procedure in which he takes the patient’s own platelet rich blood and re-introduces it to the injury site, so that the healing benefits of the platelets get to the site faster and can be concentrated on the injury.

Why Should I Choose PRP?
Suffering from a Repetitive Stress Injury can sideline an athlete from doing what they love. The healing process can take many months with the potential to re-injure the site. PRP can, in certain circumstances, help an athlete heal faster and get back to normal activity in less time. Arthritis sufferers can also benefit from PRP, as it may help to alleviate their daily pain onset. Only you and your doctor can decide if PRP therapy is right for you, and only after a thorough physical examination.

Is It Safe?
Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy has been used for over 20 years with minimal adverse effects. It uses a patient’s own blood, and so minimizes the risk of rejection. Infections are rare, as the only potential for infection comes from the injection site, not from the therapy itself. In fact, PRP is just as safe as other, more traditional injections such as steroid or cortisone injection therapy for injury repair.

Dr. Eastwood of Sideline Orthopedic and Sports Medicine has experience using Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy as an alternative to more traditional injectionables. If you believe you can benefit from Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy, make an appointment with Dr. Eastwood at (540) 552-7133 for a consultation. We are happy to hear from you!
