Dr. Bart Eastwood earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology at Nebraska Wesleyan University. He continued his education at Des Moines University, College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Eastwood completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Ohio University. In addition, he completed fellowship training in sports medicine at Indiana University, Methodist Sports Medicine, where he worked with University of Indiana, Purdue University and the Indianapolis Colts.


Dr. Robert Schopf joins the Sideline Orthopedics and Sports Medicine team as foot and ankle specialist serving Blacksburg, VA and the surrounding communities. Dr. Schopf grew up in Pennsylvania with three brothers and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Widener University. He earned his Master of Science in Human Resource Management from Troy State University. Dr. Schopf earned his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine from Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine.


Matthew Shortt joins Sideline Orthopedics and Sports Medicine as a physician assistant. Mr. Shortt brings outstanding work experience, rigorous education and a passion to provide exceptional medical care for all of his patients. Matthew Shortt earned his Bachelor of Science in Physician Assistant Studies, magna cum laude, from Jefferson College of Health Sciences with a clinical concentration in orthopedics.

Dr. Derek Buck

Dr. Derek Buck, M.D., D.C.

Dr. Derek Buck joins Sideline Orthopedics and Sports Medicine as an Interventional and Spine Care Specialist.  He studied general medicine at Ross University School of Medicine on the island of Roseau Dominica, which is located in the West Indies. His residency was in physical medicine and rehabilitation. In Richmond, Virginia, he completed his fellowship training in interventional spine.
